Everyone’s welcome

Accessibility

Out of the Box aims to make the 2027 festival accessible and inclusive for everyone.

We’re creating a welcoming space where children can share stories, explore new ideas, and dive into the world of imagination. Everyone who attends is invited to experience the festival through the wonder and curiosity of a child – where joy, discovery, and fun are always at the heart of the show.

Relaxed

Out of the Box is a high sensory experience with foyer spaces and the surrounding areas filled with children and families. However, the experience is child-centred and is more relaxed in the approach to how people move through and access QPAC during the festival. Many of the productions on offer are tailored to the developmental and access needs of very young children and the staff and artists are equipped to support and enable a positive experience that welcomes children and their unique needs.

All Out of the Box performances allow patrons to make noise, enter and exit as needed and will gently make clear expectations for the performance and the house lights never go out during Out of the Box performances. Some productions have some additional technical elements and loud noises that might startle people with sensory needs, so we have listed some relaxed performances below that offer an additional adjustment to the technical elements of the performance.

Sensory Area

Out of the Box will have a Low Sensory space available throughout the festival. The location and access to this area will be updated in early 2027.

Foyer activation as part of Three Dresses (Glasshouse Theatre, Door 1)

Created with accessibility at its heart, the activation features a carefully crafted space where patrons can experience the world of Three Dresses in a way that suits their sensory needs. Open throughout each performance, it provides a welcoming retreat for those who may benefit from time away from the theatre, offering an alternative way to engage with the production while remaining connected to its story and themes.
