Overview

Where I Belong will bring children from metropolitan, regional and remote Queensland together through art.

QPAC’s Out of the Box Festival invites children to make art with their peers in a statewide creative exchange that celebrates the many ways we find connection, community, and belonging.

This will be celebrated in a grand installation at QPAC’s Out of the Box Festival in June 2027.

Working with artists in each community, 20 schools and early childhood centres will make postcards, drawings, and other creative responses, sharing stories about what makes them feel connected to home, community, culture and country.

These artworks and messages will be showcased throughout the festival site, where children from across Queensland will see their stories and creativity represented.

Where I Belong continues a rich tradition of collaborative arts projects with children at QPAC since the first Out of the Box Festival in 1992. Inspired by the work of Researcher, Teacher and Founder/Collector of the Children’s Art Archive, Dr Barbara Piscitelli AM.

If your school, early childhood centre or community would like to know more about how to participate in this project, email education@qpac.com.au.
